TRAVEL AWARDS POISED TO PLAY A KEY ROLE IN ECONOMIC RECOVERY
With companies looking for ways to improve performance and capitalize on a seemingly rebound economy, a new survey by the Incentive Federation concludes that travel incentives are powerful motivators. In the study, which generated 540 responses from business owners and managers, 68 percent agreed that cash bonuses could have a negative impact if they are not paid out or are not large enough. Travel scored well, with 61 percent saying they can build a more exciting, memorable program around a travel incentive. 57 percent said that travel incentives are remembered longest, as opposed to cash with 22 percent.

 A 6.8% increase compared with 2002, despite the fact that fewer tourists visited the country, according to Mexico's Ministry of Tourism. The number of visitors fell from 19.7 million in 2002 to 18.6 million in 2003, but tourists spent more on average last year than 2002, up 13.8%. "These figures reflect the recovery of the world economy but also Mexico's ability to provide diverse options for high-end travelers" said Rodolfo Elizondo, Mexico's secretary of tourism.
